» Police ! «
I unlocked it.
Three officers entered. Dustin stood up slowly. For a split second, I thought he was going to run. Instead, he looked at me.
« Raymond won’t let her testify. »
The officers immediately focused their attention on him.
« What does that mean? » demanded one of them.
Dustin laughed nervously.
« You’ll see. »
They handcuffed him. As they led him towards the door, he turned around.
« Do you think it’s over? »
« No, » I said.
His smile returned.
» GOOD. «
Then they took him outside.
I was already moving. Cal grabbed my arm. I turned around. He let go immediately.
« I didn’t know, » he said.
« You should have. »
His expression became tense.
» I know. «
Behind him, Trevor looked ill. Cal lowered his voice.
« Raymond Vale owns part of this room. »
That stopped me.
» How much ? «
« On paper? Nothing. »
« And unofficially? »
Cal hesitated.
» Enough. «
My phone vibrated again. This time, the message was from an unknown number. One sentence.
